RMBOA 2011 River Ramble
Information
Ramble Information Package
The Ramble Information
Package contains a copy of the
standard publications
for members, the River Murray Boat Owners Association
Handbook and The RMBOA Voyage Planning Guide. In addition,
it contains daily running sheets
which outlines the days events and provides advice about
local river conditions. Where possible, the Ramble Package
also contains tourist information relevant to the mooring
locations. The pack also contains information about the
various competitions that will be run over the course of the
Ramble.
Calculators
Although not specific
to the Ramble, the RMBOA provides a
Murray River Trip Calculator
which allows you to calculate your fuel consumption and
identifies potential refuelling and shopping location close
to the river. Other
calculators and spreadsheets
are available to assist with the planning of river voyages.
Why
Does My Vessel Need Insurance for the Ramble?
Many owners of smaller vessels ask why
the RMBOA insists that they insure their vessel before being
allowed on the Ramble when their vessel has a relatively low
value.
The Association's insurance policy is clear that it does not
cover damage, death or injury caused by vessels on the river
because it expects that each vessel should be carrying its
own insurance. The insurance policy essentially only covers
the gatherings of the Association on the river bank or in a
venue.
Advice for the RMBOA's insurance company is that the
Association could be leaving itself open to litigation if it
knowingly allowed uninsured boats to take part in an
Association organised cruise and there was an accident that caused
damage or injury beyond the resources of the uninsured
skipper to pay.
For this reason, the RMBOA
has to insist on sighting evidence that Ramble vessels are
insured against causing injury and damage to others for at
least the duration of the Ramble.
RMBOA Greywater SOP - Why Do I Need To Comply?
The RMBOA has a policy of minimising the
environmental impact of its functions on the river
environment. As part of this policy, the RMBOA has developed
a set of Greywater Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to
help reduce the impact of greywater discharges, especially
when boats are gather in groups. For at least the duration
of the Ramble, and hopefully longer, Ramble participants are
expected to consider the SOP and carry out those procedures
that are relevant to their vessel.
