Calculators
The River Murray Boat Owners Association
(RMBOA) has developed a number of calculators that all river
users can use to plan voyages, estimate when black water
(sewage) holding tanks need to be emptied and estimate the
amount of grey water that your vessel produces.
If these calculators are useful and you are
not a member of the RMBOA, please read our membership page
and consider joining the Association to allow the
development of more tools.
RMBOA River Murray Cruise Calculator
The RMBOA River Murray
Cruise Calculator
allows river users to estimate travelling times, fuel
consumption and voyage costs for the lower 1000 km of the
Murray River. If you know the fuel capacity, average
travelling speed and average fuel consumption, this
calculator will calculate the travelling time and fuel
consumption between points along the river.
The calculator allows the entering of
refuelling locations and will identify if the vessel is
capable of travelling between refuelling locations based on
distance and estimated fuel consumption.
Fuel Records
The RMBOA
Fuel Records spreadsheet
allows a river user to record their vessel's fuel use,
distance travelled and time taken. The spread sheet then
calculates the vessel's average speed and fuel consumption
(litres per100km and litres per hour). The spreadsheet
has two example entries that should be deleted before use.
The white fields are entered by the use, while the grey
fields are calculated. Requires either Microsoft Excel or
Open Office Calc.
Calculate Black Water Holding Capacity
River vessels with permanent toilets have
holding tanks where the toilet waste (black water) is stored
before it is pumped out at a Waste Disposal Station of by a
commercial contractor.
Using simple information such as the
dimensions of the black water holding tanks, the average
volume of a toilet flush, the average number of flushes per
person per day and the number of people onboard, the
black water
calculator provides an estimate of how often the holding
tank needs to be emptied.
Calculate Grey Water Holding Capacity
Grey water is the waste water generated on a
vessel that is not black water (sewage). This includes
washing up water, shower water, washing machine water,
dishwater water and water from hand basins.
Using information such as the average amount
of water used in washing up, the flow rate of the shower,
the amount of water used by the washing machine and/or
dishwasher and the number of people on-board, the
grey water
calculator estimates the amount of grey water produced by
your vessel.
The calculator also calculates the size of
the holding tank required to hold this grey water before it
is pumped out at a Waste Disposal Station or filtered for
return to the river.
This information may help river users to
plan whether to store or process grey water when the
regulations are changed in the future.
