Maps
South
Australia's Waters An Atlas & Guide
The Atlas was produced by the
Boating Industry of South Australia (BIA) and the Government of South Australia.
Although the atlas includes coastal waters, its primary
focus is the river.
Murray River Pilot
The Murray River Pilot is an excellent book covering the
area between the Mouth of the Murray/Coorong to the border.
Not only does it contain information about the river, but it
also provides a fascinating insight into the history of the
river and its people.
River Murray Charts
These charts cover the Murray River upstream of Renmark in a
similar manner to the Murray River Pilot. It is a larger
format than the Pilot and the stapled binding allows the
maps to be laid out flat when using them.

The River Murray Canoe Guide Series
Maps are available from
Canoe SA for
Katarapko Creek, Chowilla Creek, Loch Luna/Chambers Creek
(as well as Torrens Island and Environs including the Port
River and Barker Inlet). These provide routes, facilities
and distances through the creeks and lagoons.

Murray River Towns
This street directory contains maps
for over 18 Murray River regional towns from New South
Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

On-Line Mapping Services
The South Australian, Victorian
and New South Wales State Governments each provide an
on-line Geographic Information System (GIS) that can provide
valuable information to river users. Probably one of the
most useful services is the mapping services that allow you
to plot maps of the river and the surrounding towns and
country side. Some, such as the Victorian Government site
sells 1:30,000 topographical maps on-line.
Unfortunately, the
programs used to select and displays the maps varies between
the states, but with a bit of practice, they are easy enough to
drive.

Locations
along the river have been identified in a Google Earth
Placemark file. The
placemark file
can either be downloaded as a file, or used as a network
link by the Google Earth program.
If you
download the file, you can use it even when you aren't
connected to the Internet, but if you set it as a network
link, you will need to be connected to the Internet, but you
will always get the latest version available.
If you have
placemarks that you think would like to include in this
file, please send your placemark file to the
webmaster and your work
will be included (with acknowledgement).
If
you don't have Google Earth (Broadband Essential!!) you
can download it for free at http://earth.google.com
